Mural Painting
Ashley Hicks undertakes commissions for painted rooms - murals painted directly on the wall, or on hessian or other fabric stuck to the wall, or indeed on wallpaper in his studio which can then be installed on site like any other hand-painted wallpaper. He works from his own photographs and from historic sources, reimagining figures painted in bright colours by Michelangelo in the Sistine Chapel as chiaroscuro fictive sculptures in a bathroom in Oxfordshire, and adapting Piranesi’s drawings of Paestum for a sitting room in Milan.
